The Rubinstein Family

Marcia Edis Rubinstein (née Cohen) died peacefully of Alzheimer’s
disease on November 4, 2020 in Nashua, NH.

She was born on February 18, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Irving and Dorothy Cohen. She was doted upon by her loving parents and
grandparents and she frequently recalled fond memories of her childhood
surrounded by extended family. As a little girl, it was her grandparents who would take her to Synagogue and light candles with her on Shabbos, but it was her mother who would take her shopping at Robert Fruits and
Vegetable market and then to the Forman Delicatessen for a sandwich and a glass of beer.  She loved both activities very much.

It was high school where she met and fell in love with Walter Rubinstein,
one of her neighborhood admirers. During that time she frequently attended fencing meets at Stuyvesant High School, to cheer on Walter, who was the team’s captain and a notable athlete. They continued dating when Walter went to college and dental school and they were married on December 19,1954.

In 1960 Marcia and Walter welcomed a daughter Karen, and in 1966 their
son, Mitchell followed. Marcia and Walter moved to Livingston, NJ in 1970 and spent most of their married life there. A few weeks every summer the family vacationed in Lenox, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed concerts at Tanglewood and spent time with their family.

Marcia was a loving parent and wife as well as an active member of her
community; involved in the school PTA and The League of Women Voters. She was also an exceptional cook who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Both she and Walter were avid fans of the arts; both in NYC and Lenox, MA.

Marcia was an independent thinker who valued education. In the early
1980’s, with her children grown, she decided to enroll in Montclair State
University. Earning her degree in psychology with honors four years later
was one of her proudest accomplishments.

Marcia lived a full and meaningful life, as a beloved daughter, wife,
mother and grandmother. May her memory be for a blessing. She is
survived by her children Karen Holt and Mitchell Rubinstein, her
grandchildren Rachel Logue, Evan Rubinstein and Todd Rubinstein, and
her great granddaughter Harper Logue.

Dr. Walter Joel Rubinstein, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 1, 2018. He was 86 years old.

Son of David and Mazie Rabins and the younger brother of Dr. Richard Rubinstein, Walter was raised in Brooklyn NY. He attended Stuyvesant High School, where he excelled academically and was also captain of the fencing team. After graduating, he went on to study at Columbia University, where he was a starting fencer for Columbia’s NCAA national championship teams in 1951 and 1952.

After graduating from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Walter served as a Dentist in the United States Public Health Service and in the United States Coast Guard. After leaving the service,
he practiced dentistry in New York City until his retirement in 2015.

On December 19, 1954 Walter married his high school sweetheart Marcia Cohen. Walter and Marcia started their family in New York City. Karen was born in 1960 and Mitchell in 1966. In 1970 the family moved to Livingston, NJ, to the home Walter and Marcia would share together for the next 50 years.

In addition to being a highly respected dentist, Walter was also an accomplished photographer and jewelry maker. He took great pride in capturing images of his children and grandchildren, whose photos
filled their home. He also lovingly created beautiful gold jewelry pieces for his loved ones. Walter and Marcia were lovers of the arts in all forms. They took pleasure in sharing those experiences with their family.

Walter lived well and touched so many lives with his skills, knowledge, creativity, humor and generosity. His beloved wife Marcia lived on after his passing until November 4, 2020. Walter is survived by his children Karen Holt and Mitchell Rubinstein, his grandchildren Rachel Logue, Evan Rubinstein and Todd Rubinstein, and his great granddaughter Harper Logue.
